BGP Stability is Precarious
نویسنده
چکیده
We note a fact which is simple, but may be useful for the networking research community: essentially any change to BGP’s decision process can cause divergence — or convergence when BGP would otherwise diverge.

Analysis of Path-vector Routing Stability
Most studies on path-vector routing stability have been conducted empirically by means of ad-hoc analysis of BGP data traces. None of them consider prior specification of an analytic method including the use of stability measurement metrics for the systematic analysis of BGP traces and associated meta-processing for determining the local state of the routing system. In this paper, we define a s...
متن کاملStable Routing in Internet with Fully Meshed Sibling Relationship
The Border Gateway Protocol (BGP, [1]) is the only path vector routing protocol used in Internet inter-domain. However, BGP still suffers from its inherent stability problems ([2]). If some BGP policy table is poorly configured, update of a routing path may trigger the change in another BGP router. This routing path changes occur sequentially and incessantly. As ISPs are reluctant to open local...

متن کاملStabilizing BGP, Safely
Route instability is widely recognized as a major problem in the Internet. Core routers are barraged with millions of updates daily, leading to massive infrastructural costs and worsened data-plane performance. Route flap damping provides some protection against instability, but introduces pathologies and reduces availability. With concerns about the scalability of the routing system prompting ...
